Hailing from the South Pointe block at the southern end of the vineyard, Mercy sources three different clones from the Zabala Vineyard; "Dijon" clones 115 and 667, as well as touch of Pommard clone (4). The property itself is found in the region's dried Riverbed channel, a low yielding slice of terrain found adjacent to the Arroyo Seco Creek as it flows outward from the Santa Lucia Mountains. In this area, beds of cobblestone and large granite stones scar the meager surface soil and in concert with gale winds and dense fog, help build flavor and intrigue of Zabala Vineyard fruit.
At its core, this wine shows layers of black and bing cherry aromas, which are supported by notes of vanilla cola, baking spices, violets and mineral tones. Well balanced, supple tannins are held up by firm, linear acidity from the vintage's foggy and cold, thus elongated, 2010 growing-season.

Recommended - "The Arroyo Seco Has Arrived" by Laurie Daniel, San Jose Mercury News, October 7, 2013: "...my favorite was the one from Zabala Vineyard. The 2010 ($38) is bright and spicy, with raspberry and cherry flavors accented by a subtle leafy note. It's structured without being too coarse or tannic."
91 Points - Bacchus & Beery Wine Blog, Dec 16, 2013 -"A very well-made Pinot that causes pause for thought. Bright fruit on the nose with aromas of cherry, ripe strawberry and just a hint of leather. Soft tannins on the palate with balanced acidity. Flavors of red berry, cherry, raspberry and strawberry with just a kiss of sweetness on the finish. This wine is still quite young and should improve over the next few years."
