2013 Pinot Noir, Cedar Lane Vineyard
Found in the riverbed corridor of the Arroyo Seco AVA, Cedar Lane Vineyard rests along the banks of the seasonal creek. This 60-acre property encompasses a pocket of terrain tucked behind the Santa Lucia bench where the riverbed narrows toward the mountains. Dramatic in its setting, the vines are rooted in shallow, rocky soil and produce distinct grapes.
Balance is the hallmark of this vintage; while intrigue is the hallmark of this vineyard. Showcasing the distinct character of Pinot Noir from Arroyo Seco AVA’s river channel this wine is a 50/50 split between two clones, "Dijon" 667 and Pommard (4). Loaded with red-tone, bramble-fruit characters, the bouquet is filled with dusty plum, raspberry cream, and sour cherry. In its recesses aromas of pomegranate, rhubarb, black tea, potpourri and earthy, mineral notes abound. On the palate, the flavors carry through with balanced achieved between the vibrant acidity and fleshy, yet firm textures.
94 points - Wine Enthusiast: "This bottling of the 667 and Pommard clones starts with a stewed-cherry note before the sagebrush, forest floor and moss aromas start to dominate. There's an exotic sesame touch to the sip, where cherry and berry flavors are lifted by savory hints of salt, pepper and nori wrap. Really unique and delicious, it leaves the mouth watering and invigorated." - M.K. (10/1/17)
