2013 Sauvignon Blanc, Zabala Vineyard
Located in the dried riverbed channel of the Arroyo Seco AVA, the Zabala Vineyard is an ideal place to grow distinct Sauvignon Blanc and, in particular, clone Musque (FPS 27). The low yielding nature of the Musque clone in concert with the cool, self-limiting nature of the appellation and vineyard site makes for complex flavor development. It is the clone along with the beds of cobblestone and hardpan subsoil which makeup the vineyard that make this wine truly enchanting.
Hand-harvested at 22.8° brix / sugar, the style of this wine is innately racy yet, due in large part to the clone (which achieves flavor development with fewer degree days), it is also richly textured with an exotic flavor profile. Stainless steel fermented and aged in 75-gallon, stainless Mueller barrels, the resulting wine displays a bouquet of Honeydew melon, Lisbon lemon and honeysuckle with anise and mineral notes in the recesses. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced with fresh acidity and innate round textures of the Musque clone.

92 points, Editor's Choice - Wine Enthusiast, December 2014 - "... ranging from lemons and limes to riper kiwis and green melons, and the finish is totally dry. But what really impresses is the natural acidity. It’s so bright and brisk, so mouth-cleansing."

Aromas of ripe pineapple, spice and honeycomb. A soft mouth-feel with juicy acidity. Complex yet integrated flavors of green apple, pineapple, Asian pear, spice and minerality, honeydew melon and citrus with tropical notes on finish. A real patio pleaser!"
