2016 (dry) Rose, Arroyo Seco
In the French marketplace, the word(s)/term en primeur is used to describe the opening of "the" season. Such "a season" being the first strawberries or the first peaches of the new year to hit the market. And, as "the season" opens it is a time to rejoice and celebrate the flavors. At Mercy there is a similar approach to the Rosé bottling. And, like any season (short or long), we celebrate the warm summer months by producing a finite amount of delicious, dry rose-colored wine.
A classic vin gris style wine, this dry Rosé hails from pinot noir grapes sourced at Griva Vineyard. At crush, heritage clones (Pommard (4) and La Tache) grapes were whole-cluster pressed and transferred to directly to stainless steel tank. Inoculated following 24-hours of settling the wine was fermented and taken off its lees at dryness. The wine aged in neutral French oak until it was bottled in February 2017.
Salmon-hued, the 2016 bottling exudes aromas of juicy strawberry, white peach, rhubarb, rose petal and minerals.
