2014 Pinot Noir, Zabala Vineyard

Hailing from the "South Pointe" block at the southern edge of the vineyard, Mercy sources three different clones from the Zabala Vineyard; "Dijon" clones 115 and 667, as well as Pommard (4) clone. The property itself is found in the region's dried Riverbed channel, a low yielding slice of terrain found adjacent to the Arroyo Seco Creek as it flows outward from the Santa Lucia Mountains. In this area, beds of cobblestone and large granite stones scar the meager surface soil and in concert with gale winds and dense fog, help build flavor and intrigue of Zabala Vineyard fruit.
An ideal growing season, with both great acidity and phenological ripeness, this low-alcohol wine shows layers of redder-tone fruit as cherry, cranberry and pomegranate aromas mingle with notes of vanilla cola, tea-leaf, baking spices, sandalwood, and sagebrush tones. As the wine opens, similar flavors are present on the palate and are framed by bright acidity and verve.
